Question Urgent Help on VoIP and Hotspot!!

    Hi, everyone!

I own ZyXEL Prestige 2000W and at home with a 3com router it works fine, but when I'm trying to use it over hotspot, the phone logs in on the network, but not on the VoIP providers' server.
Is there anything I can do? I wrote to Zyxel support two emails, and didn' get any response.
    Please help me.
    I'm desperate!

First make sure that you can reach the Internet and the SIP register server is reachable.
Also make sure that the account information is correct ie user name and pw.
    Do you have NAT setup?

First of all, thanks a lot for your help, mate.
A SIP register server was not given to me by VoIP SP, therefore I used proxy server details instead.
All information is right, as the phone connects to VoIP SP when I'm at home, or leeching on private router outside the house.
The problem begins, when I'm trying to connect to public WiFi hotspot.
I do have NAT setup in my phone, it has four options: disable, by outbound proxy, STUN and Fake WAN Address on SIP and RTP.
I tryed all of them without any success.
    Thanks again.

If it helps, I can send you screen dumps of the phone configurations.

If I understand correctly, it would appear that the proper ports are not being forwarded when you are at other than your location.

Well... I'm not a professional, but I think that you're right. Another thing: today I've been in place which has a hotspotwhich requires authification with paswword an user name. I've got the user and the pass, gonfigured the phone on PPPoE, and it couldn't establish connection with the hotspot. When I switched from PPPoE to DHCP, the phone received IP from the hotspot, but couldn't connect to the VoIP SP.
I'm considering to throw out the phone.
    Please help me.
    Thanks a lot. :-)

A firewall needs to be configured to allow the traversal of two different Voice over IP (VoIP) protocols, H.323, and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). Due to the fact that VoIP protocols are made up of signaling and IP address/port combinations, there are a number of issues with VoIP and Network Address Translations (NAT).

The hotspot would have to dealt with these issues. I personally can not see any advantage to using a mobile VoIP phone if a 3G cell phone is available.

    Dear M/Q,
    Thanks for your reply.
I didn't understand much of it, but I can't configure public hotspots' firewall. Is that mean, that I won't be able to use my phone? On manufactures' site (Zyxel) written, that this phone works with public hotspot. Why is that?
And how 3G cell phone can replace VoIP? I talk with my friends in different countries for free via phone with VoIP. How can I do it with 3G?
Please help me to configure my Zyxel.
    Thank you very much.

That Zyxel phone won't work at any hotspot location that requires a username and password. It doesn't have a built-in web browser required to send authentication.

Linksys has a new phone (WIP300) that does have web capabilities to enter a username and password.

    Here's a good review...

hummn, sounds like udp 5060 is blocked on the hotspot.
    Try using STUN
