    WiFi roaming

    Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and it has been a great help so far. What are the possibilities or roaming between ADs. I saw an earlier thread that indicated that it is possible. We use smartbridges and I want to be able use my PDA, accept a sip voice call and be able to roam between various ADs. Will the IP reassignment be smooth enough to maintain the call and has anyone heard of this being done?

I'm not too familiar with any of the WiFi phones that ware available but I keep hearing that the battery life can be an issue.

    Thanks in advance,

    J

The only way I know how to do that and keep it encrypted like WPA is to use lightweight devices using a controller.

I know Cisco can do it, it is called WDS fast secure roaming. It basically pushes your login credentials to the new AP just before you are handed off to it. This allows the handoff to happen under 100ms. Without this feature handoffs will result in the caller saying, "What did you say?" each time you roam to a new AP.
