24dbi grid & alpha connecting to router help please
I have a 24dbigrid antena & alpha using windows XP trying to get my buddies wireless internet signal which is 1/2 mile down the road i can pickup the signal strength anywhere from 60-68% he has a D-Link DIR-615 router when i get the signal it dosent have a good IP address iget a 169.254 etc addrress can someone please help figure this out so i can get onto the net besides this SLOW dial up
The IP address is a Windows assigned default when a DHCP request cannot be completed. There can be many reasons for this such as no IP's available, not authorized, can't connect, etc.
Has anyone used D-Links DIR 615 router before? I went to there site and it seems like they might have seetings so it wont send an addrress out is that possible? I don't know anything about this stuff that why i am asking could it just be a seeting on my buddies router? I was told my system should pick up his router no problem 1/2 mile down the road do you guys think it won't? Is there something else i can buy so it will ?
Every DHCP server can be configured regarding the size and address range of the DHCP pool. The defaults vary by model. In addition one must successfully enter the wireless network pass phrase, if enabled, before receiving an IP address.
I doubt very much that the signal that you get 1/2 mile down the road from an Indoor Wireless source is a clean connectable signal. The signal strength that you see is probably more Noise than connectable signal.
To narrow down the scope of the "trouble" take a laptop and go to the source and make sure that you can connect there first.
