I read on Wi-Fi Planet a few months ago that it is possible to upgrade the linksys WRT54G with a free ware program and it would be so powerful as to bother my
neighbor. I thought I saved the thread but I am unable to locate it. Does anyone else remember the thread? Does it work?:Please advise. Thanks
To do that, you need to upgrade the firmware. The best firmware out there at the moment, that works with your router is DD-WRT ....
Once you have updated the firmware, you can ramp up your transmitting power and that could disrupt other networks (possibly) nearby. The default power setting on your current firmware is around 30mW IIRC, its possible to go above 200mW ...
NB: Be aware though that upgrading the firmware will invalidate any router warranty and could potentially damage the router if it isnt done properly ....
But all of this makes me wonder, why would you want to bother your neighbour? If you have clashing networks, change the channel yours operates on .... Just letting you know, legally, you can get yourself in hot water for maliciously causing nusiance/abusing wireless transmissions ....
