I have a wired local area network that accesses the internet with Hughes Gen4 satellite service. Everyting is connected through two ethernet switches. I also have a fairly ordinary WiFi router connected to one of the switches. It works fine for things like accessing the web with a laptop computer.

The problem is that I am unable to connect the elements of my home theater to the internet through the WiFi router. I have a DirecTV Genie receiver and two blu-ray players with WiFi connectivity. All the components find the rounter without a problem and connect to it without a problem but none of them will reach the internet. Is there something special about connecting these components through a satellite internet service?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I would like that every device that connects to the wifi router goes to the 192.168.0.x range instead of 192.168.1.x because I have a NAS server in my Home PC (192.168.0.3) and I want to access it from my laptop on the WiFi connection. The question is, is there a way?

Extra info: Wired router is DLink D-604. Wireless is TP LINK TL-WR1043ND

Hello all,
I've got a question about the process of network scanning - but from the router side.
We all know that the router sends out signals to all devices around it (let's say, our smartphones) in order for them to detect that it's there, and connect to it.
My question is: Can I detect a device scanning for networks?
Let's say I want to detect that smartphone looking for networks, can I do that?
Does it send out any signals during the scanning process? If so - at what rate, and what do these signals include (MAC Address, etc.)?

Thanks a lot!

Trying to determine the best choice for a router to supply wifi when connected to a cable modem -...

Trying to determine the best choice for a router to supply wifi when connected to a cable modem - and to have the wifi signal available throughout a 10 bedroom 3 story house.

I know you can do an extender, however I have not had the best luck with several of them.

Considering the Alfa AIP-W502. Reportedly it is 500mw of output power, though unverified. they are available at this link for the specs.....http://www.data-alliance.net/servlet...s-Point/Detail

Alternatively I have considered the linksys EA4500. It is also supposed to be high power, though they don't seem to report it in mw, and the D-Link DIR-655 N+300 Extreme-N Gigabit Wireless Router, though I am not sure of it's power either.

The d-link model says it has 6x the range of others. A link to see on http://www.ebay.com/itm/D-Link-Xtrem...item43bb950aa8

Curious if anyone here as worked with either of these routers. They can be bought in the $50 - $80 range new or refurbed.

Are there other good choices in a similar range, again with something like 500mw of output?

Need some advice on setting up WiFi equipment in a 45 x 150 room that is to be used as an event center. There could be a few hundred in here at one time with most having some sort of WiFi device. Would like to get some suggestions for equipment. I know most devices have a limit to how many clients can be connected at same time so I'm not sure how many devices need to be in place to handle so many people. There's a coffee cafe at one end of room and the rest would be tables and chairs. Oh yeah and more than likely would need to be enough bandwidth to stream video. Thanks!

Hi

Hi

I am a new member to this community and hope that one of you will be able to help me in finding a solution to a very troublesome issue that I am facing. Here goes:

We have 12 outdoor APs installed in a corporate environment that provide wifi signal umbrella in a 1.5sq.km area. The wifi clients are Panel PCs that are based on ARM 9 processor and have embedded WinCE 5. It uses a RA Link's RT3070 chip based wifi dongle. All APs are configured with same SSID and identical AES, WPA-PSK security.

Application requires the clients (Panel PCs) to stay connected to the application server constantly even while on the move. Even though the wifi dongle specs specify that it supports wifi roaming but even though I have checked the registry entries pertaining to it's driver (RT2870 thats what the driver is called) but wifi connection is not roaming.

Even after the ping breaks constantly for 10 mins or more, the status is shown as 'connected' on the WZC log and connection doesn't switch to another AP.

I can provide further in depth information if required.

Thanks for reading through this post and in advance for a possible solution.

cheers

Sajid
