Hello everyone, i have cisco 1242 acces point that i want to use but i can't because i canot connect to it with my lan cable.
I dont have com port on my computer thats why this is my only options..

i configured my tcp/ip portocol like this:

IP: 192.168.0.100
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.100 (like the ip)..

This worked with my other cisco access point (1131 series)

First i hard reseteted the ap than I connected my computer with the cisco router over the lan and my pc said im connected..

I tryed to find the routers ip by using the Cisco's ip searching program (ipsu) by typing the router's mac address but it coudn't do it

I found it after all using (arp -a) command in cmd prompt.. it said the ip of the router is 192.168.0.22, so i tryed to connect with both my browsers (IE & Firefox) but i couldnt make it

I dont know where im doing it wrong so if someone knows pls tell me...

Btw after staying connect like 10-15 seconds the lights of the ap start to blink one after another untill i plug the power cable off..
Don't know what that means

Thanks in advance and sorry if there are many typing errors

We have a environment of about 300 lightweight 1252s. They are managed by 2 WiSMs, and WCS. WCS is running version 6.0.132, and the controllers are on version 5.2.193. Every so often, WCS receives alerts from most, if not all, APs indicating a degraded power state. The switches are all 3560E and 3750E series switches with the commands
power inline port max 20000
power inline port auto 20000
configured. They are also running cdp v2.

sh pow inline on the switch shows max 20w and draw 20w, but both WCS and the controller show degraded status. Rebooting the AP clears the issue, but that isnt really an option, rebooting whenever the problem arises. The uptime on the switches and the controllers is 40+ days, and the APs started blinking less than a day ago. All of the APs have the 'prestandard' box checked.

Is this a known issue? Has anyone seen this before?

I logged a call with TAC, but all the reslolutions/workarounds they had had already been implemented or attempted.

Thanks for your time

Unfortunately DLink no longers resells the DSA 3100-B.

Does anyone here know if there is a new distributor of the DSA 3100-B? I may need to pick one up soon.

Maybe it just goes by a different name and model number now, but may still be the same thing?

Thanks

Hi,

I'm using a Cisco Wireless controller in my company.
(the model is a AIR-WLC4402-50-K9).

The WLAN is configured with WPAv2 AES and 802.1X (PEAP MS-CHAPv2) authentication on an external Microsoft IAS server (2003 R2).

The authentication works fine and the WLAN too, but it's possible for a single user to log on different laptops with the same AD login and password and normally it's forbiden by "user login policies" parameter set to 1 on the WLC (in security parameters).

Does anybody says if it's a known issue and how to solve this problem?

thanks,

I have been researching equipment and software needed to establish a wireless network in a 55+ RV Park. The park has Internet service to the park office and provides wireless access only in the office, not good enough. After a hundred Google searches I know more, but more confused than ever.

What I need to understand is what components are needed. Here are the essential requirements:

A device that requires an account and authentication.

A device to allocate bandwidth to logged on users

Devices needed to broadcast the signal in a park 1/4 mile by 1/4 mile

A survey indicated that 4 broadcast points were needed. What I need to know is the major devices necessary and how they fit together to write a request for proposals to provide vendors. Hope someone can help me.

I'm a road warrior with several wifi devices that I take with me when I travel to hotels. I searching for a small consumer router I can take with me to hotels that meets all of the following needs:
1. Connect the router as a client via wifi to another public/hotel-hosted access point
2. Serve as a private/secure access point to my devices.
3. Route Internet/WAN traffic between the wifi client interface (#1) and wifi access point (#2)
4. Has a good web-based admin control panel
5. Supports WPA-PSK encryption/authentication or better

In other words, it would be just like a regular consumer wifi access point router, but instead of the WAN port being Ethernet, it would be a wifi client.

I'm currently resolving these needs with my laptop PC by using a second USB wifi interface and bridging software between the 2 wifi interfaces (built-in and USB), but when I reboot or take my laptop away from my hotel room, the routing solution goes offline for my other devices.

Anyone know of such a wifi product?

Thanks.

I have my main isp provided router, it is also wireless it also servers a the modem for my tv and phone service so this i will call router_1 and then I have my second router D-Link i will call router_2

I have my kids x-box 360 wired to router_1, my family desktop wired to router_1 and I connect my laptop as wireless to router_1

My kids (3 of them) with laptops I have setup to connect to router_2 - i use the filters in router_2 to control wireless connections from 7:00am to 11:00pm so the kids can only get on wireless between these times - router_1 doesn't have these filters

My question is, or what i want to do rather is have both networks viewable to each other, on my laptop i can see the desktop public folders but i can not see my kids public folders and same vise versa, they can see each other but can not see my laptop or the family desktop and they also can not use windows media center or windows media center can not see there laptops

now i know this is because of the two different networks but how can i bridge the networks so that we all can see and share with each other?

any advise is appreciated or where to find the information would be great
Thanks

I'm interested in setting up a public wifi hotspot for a local bussiness. I'm looking for a solution with a stand alone router (not zonecd). I'm open minded to dd-wrt or tomato but I have heard they are not completely reliable and since this will be for a bussiness reliability is key.

Features Required:

-A page that requires user to agree to ToS before accessing the internet.
-QoS Settings
-a way to protect users from each other.
-a way to blacklist websites
-a way to whitelist protocals allowed (80, 443)
-a way to monitor web traffic

My price ceiling is $200 and i would prefer something less than $100.

Hi "all knowing" tech people! :-)

I am trying to configure an encore ENRXWI-G as a range extender (repeater), ALL I was able to get after many attempts are two (2) WiFI networks of the SAME strength showing up on my loptop !!! What am I doing wrong? I thought I was going to get the SAME WLAN with an improved signal strength!?!?

Here are the details:

DSL MODEM/WL ROUTER:

ENHWI-G3
802.11G Broadband Wireless Router (54 Mbps), with 4-swi

Settings:

IP: 192.168.1.1
Sub M: 255.255.255.0

DHCP: enabled
NAT: enabled

Channel: 6
SSID: xxxxx
Authentication: WPA2-PSK
Key: xxxxx

There is a wired PC conected to this modem/router and it is working OK!

Access Point:

ENRXWI-G
802.11g Wireless LAN Extender

Settings:
IP: 192.168.1.2
SubM: 255.255.255.0

Mode: REPEATER

Channel: 6
SSID: same as router
Authentication: WPA2-PSK
Key: same as router

I am able to see my WLAN when I click on the Site Survey buton (on the APīs configuration page) and I am able to successfully ping BOTH IP addresses mentioned above after configuration!

Like I said before; ALL I GET ARE TWO WLANs (instead of 1 but I do not know if this wrong or not) , one name xxxxx and the other named xxxxx 2!!!! and they both have the same strength but the whole point is to able to extend the signal so that it may be transmitted further than it is now!!! Am I supposed to see two networks after configuration?

Should I mess around with setting such as Beacon Interval, RTS Threshold, Frag. Threshold or DTIM Interval?

Do any of the setting in the modem/router need to be chaged?

Can anyone contribute a few pointers!

I am experiencing slow local file transfer. I can download faster online than through wireless LAN. Hope some of you can give me some inputs. Below are specs and symptoms.

Running with
Router: Netgear WNR834B v2 with
Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/19/09) mini - build 12169M NEWD Eko

Four laptops with two Windows 7 and two XP.
Two pcs with Windows 7 and XP respectively.

Each computer connects to the router wirelessly with excellent signals.

Testing bandwidth through www.speedtest.net, each computer gives me approximately 20megabits/6.5megabits with comcast cable.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/619360193.png

However, when transferring files between computers, I only get around 8 megabits. That is much slower than I download online. Aren't local network should be faster? Are there any settings, tweaks that I can do to speed them up?

To eliminate other interference and possibilities, I placed the router without modem and just two laptops with windows 7 in the same room to do some test. And the result was just the same capped at around 8megabits. It's far from the G speed of 54megabits. Please shed some lights here. Thank you guys.

I'm hoping someone can give me some further insights into an issue that I am having with a large event level wifi.

DESCRIPTION:
It's a temporary install, using the bluescoket 1500 AP's and a 5200 series controller. They are similar to the cisco LWAP's, with the AP's getting all info from the controller. They do dynamic power and radio adjustment as well as load sharing at a user defined cap.

The area is approximately 200'x250', wide open, but with a large AV set in it. This includes lighting, rigging, wireless audio, LED screens, projection etc. There are 11 AP's around the room running A/B/G with 2 broadcast SSID, one with WPA, one open.

Event wide, I maxed out at 388 wifi users, but that includes all 40 of the AP's at the event. I do not have an accurate user number at this time for the area in question but never saw a user count higher than 22 for the AP's. Their default setting for load sharing is 56, I had cut them down to 25.

Users were primarily wifi enable cell phones. The area in question had approximately 1500 attendees, and each one of them had a wifi capable cell phone. There were also a large number of laptop users, ~5% of the total attendance. Several laptop users were pulling decent download speeds, but usage never reached 75% of the circuit for the event.

PROBLEM:

When the room would fill up, all users would have strong wifi signal, but not be able to pass packets. Even though only ~200 users were connected, and most weren't actively passing data, there was almost no throughput. You could be standing less than 5 feet from an access point and not even be able to authenticate to the AP. Occasionally, you would get decent access and be able to use it for a few minutes, then it would slow down and drop.

I"m attributing this to radio interference and excessive device count, and i need to determine the best solution going forward. I plan to increase the AP density to about double, but I'm looking for any info or help I could get related to radio interference and devices. I'm afraid that just adding AP's wont solve the issue.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.
