Hello - Im sure these details are within this forum - however I am having difficulty withn terminology and therefore dont really know what to look for. Im hopeing therefore if I layout my 'needs' - someone may be able to advise.

Quite simply my home has 2 laptops and a desktop computer. At the moment I have a cable modem wired into a wireless router. All my computers are connected wirelessly to the internet by the wireless router (with no cables)

Questions:
1. Should I have 1 computer linked to the wirelless router via ethernet or is this setup ok - it works fine but dont no if this is the ideal setup and for what reasons.
2. I wish to access the files on any of the computers from any of the computers. I would have thought that this would be easy but again, am so behind on terminolgy etc I am finding this very hard. Have tried certain wizards but cannot do it!. Please note that one of these laptops has just been bought from a friend and does not have an authentic copy of windows!
3. Finally this is all leading to the fact that I can have 1 laptop wired to the tv so I can use this as somekind of media centre (Again dont know the best solution. The idea being I can transfer files to this laptop from the other computers wirelessly and play them on the TV or indeed obtain those from the other computers using the laptop attached to the TV.

This is causing me alot of headaches and some step by step novice style tutorial would be much appreciated or indeed any advice on solutions to what I am trying to achieve.

Many thanks

Hello Kevin,

It's quite simple as you said. Just Google "File and printer sharing" there are several links on how it should be done in both WinXP and/or Vista.

Hi Chillikev,

What's disappointing, you have not given the NAME/BRAND of your router. I don't intend to hold your hand on this project, but here is a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSAXMO7aNzg to a Linksys router setup. These instructions compliments of Youtube's PureNetworks Video are very genetic; if you’ve seen one router setup, you’ve seen them all.

To setup/change setup configuration, you HAVE to be directly connected to the router, PERIOD.

Chillikev, please hold further questions until you have at least downloaded and viewed/read the install instructions, which would bring everything sharply into focus.
