I'm trying to come up with the proper word or words that describe what is going on when preventative maintenance (PM) is being done on a computer network. I need this for a service agreement I'm working on.

A network technician who is doing PM routines might be doing: installing security patches, checking for error messages, checking system logs, checking for amount of disk storage space left, doing hard drive degragging, updating anti-virus, etc.

I don't think this can be called "repair" work since nothing is actually being repaired, like replacing a broken hard drive or broken fan. So maybe "tune up" or "tune up and operational check" might fit?

What descriptive wording do you all think I should use to best describe what is happening during this PM work?

Thank you for your suggestions.

When we have to schedule down-time for any portion of the network, we enter it into our Change Control system as "General Maintenance" along with a brief description of what systems may be effected. All system owners that may be involved have to be included on the Change Control request and the work must be authorized by them before we can perform the maintenance.
