Dear all,
I'm a newbee when it comes to WiFi and networking and I need some help.
My friend next door has a wireless router (an orange livebox to be exact), which I am allowed to share with him (I pay him part of the subscription).
Since the box is in a house next door, the connection is rather poor. My Mac usually has a good reception. It's also geographically the closest to the router. (though separated by a wall and a door...).
The rest of my house does not receive the router. So I was thinking of extending the range. Ideally I would have liked to use an N1 Vision (because it looks sleek and has a good range), but I read that this unit has to be wired to the router if it is to function as a wireless network extender (personally i don't understand why, because the reason for using it as a range extender is to use a wireless network...).
Could someone tell me what the best way is to extend the range of my friend's router without the use of wires?
I read something about a Belkin Wireless Universal Range Extender. However, the manual (which i downloaded from Belkin's website) is not very clear how I can connect the range extender WIRELESSLY to the router.
If someone knows how to use this device to extend the range of the WiFi connection, could you please explain to me?
Furthermore, I have the feeling that the one range extender may not be sufficient to cover my whole house, so I was thinking, can I connect the Range Extender to an N1 router (wired) and then use this second router to connect all my devices wirelessly to? If so, how can I do this?
Many thanks for your help!
PS, before I forget: We don't have an actual network setup. We just use the router to connect to the internet directly.
