Hi I wonder if anyone can help here. I have two cars that need key fobs for entry. I cannot enter either of the cars if I press the button. I have been tol that wifi signals can affect key fob entry. If I drive both cars down the street then remote entry works fine without any problems.

I switched off my own wifi and it still did not work. I fired up netstumbler and found a hidden ap (not broadcasting its ssid) it has readings of signal+ of 28828 and snr+ of 28828 could this be the source of the problem. My next dorr neigbour has wifi but it is running at normal levels. also could anyone advise a way of tracing the source of this signal.

Thanks in advance

Assuming youre in the US, most remote car entry devices in America broadcast at 315 MHz. Europe uses a slightly higher frequency. In any case, it would be my guess that the answer is No, a local wifi signal is not the culprit.

I've read (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/remote-entry2.htm) that you can try this:

* Turn the ignition key on and off eight times in less than 10 seconds. This tells the security system in the car to switch over to programming mode.
* Press a button on all of the transmitters you want the car to recognize. Most cars allow at least four transmitters.
* Switch the ignition off.

a wifi broadcasting at that strength will DEFINTLY affect your key fobs. really need to know year make and model. if its a CAN enabled system thats more than likely your problem. 2008 and above all american cars that is cars sold in amer. are CAN cars. import and domestic. but were out as early as 01 on select models. now if key fobs are same age i have seen weak batteries cause problems from outside signals. mo matter how close u r no change i wonder. no home computer expert by any means, but i have traced signals using my laptop and walking around watching signal strength. but with such strong signal that may not help u. my contact info is open to anyone contact me if u have questions. same goes to anyone. impossible to completely diagnosis car without seeing it but i can generally diagnosis a complete repair over phone or email. if u can answer enough of my questions. lol. know cars like back of hand. LOVE LOVE what i do and LOVE TO problem solve. the harder the better!!!!!!! base my carrer on it. ASE certified master tech for 30 years now one of the founding members. have shop and mobile repair in central calif. if interested. bring it on. have OUTSTANDING network established. all for free of coarse. i havent worked a day in my life and i dont plan on starting now. glad to help so ppl dont get ripped off(which happens way too much in my field) one of the LAST honest mechinics+technician actually+ shop slogan.lol
