Right guys hoping someone can help me here, Theres a local squash alley near me and we're going to be installing a 8 channel network ready DVR.

What I want to do is connect the DVR to the chairmans house so he can keep an eye on whos playing etc.

His house is approx. 200m away. What I'm wondering is what power do I need for the aerials at that distance as I dont want to put in an absurd setup and wipe everyone else out.

Or does anybody know of a chart or formula to work out the distance and power needed.

Thanks again everyone

Hello Axer,

You have said nothing of your current setup. Show us yours......

There is no current setup. Im starting everything from scratch.

I think I may have something worked out - take a look and let me know if you think it is possible or at least looks ok on paper.

Attached is a diagram of what I want to achieve.

Here is all the equipment I have come up with to do the job:
Antennas:
2 x "12dbi Mini Directional Antenna - 2.4 GHz" (http://www.confero24.com/product_info.php?pName=12dbi-mini-directional-antenna-24-ghz) @ €50 each
2 x HDF/LMR-200 R-TNC -> N-Male 6 mts / 19.5 ft Antenna Cable (http://www.confero24.com/product_info.php?pName=hdflmr200-rtnc-nmale-6-mts-195-ft-antenna-cable&cName=hdflmr200-cables) @ €27.73 each
2 x Linksys WRT54GL routers
DVRs and cameras (DVR has a network connection for remote viewing and administration).

I am most worried about the power of the antennas whether they are not powerful enough or too powerful. I will be putting one antenna on the squash court and another on the house basically pointing at each other.

Hi Ad5mb,

Thanks for your help on this and I would like to add this link, which has good tools that explains the way to connect. http://www.hyperlinktech.com/home.aspx particularly the lost of signal strength by connecting your AP/Router 20ft away from the antenna with LMR 200 cable.

Axer, Pay special attention to the PDF on that under Tech Resources.

Best wishes,
