Hello
I have to built a system that contains controllers that are connected to a Wi-Fi unit.
The Wi-Fi unit, as it is a part of a LAN, will be in contact with a computer that will "read" the information from the controllers.
I need it to be 802.11a
The WI-FI device will be a battery powered
The controler will have some kind of sensor (temperature, humidity . ...) or any input like a switch or output like a relay.

I need to know 2 things:

1.) Does a Wi-Fi device that has this capability exist?
2.) The language that the controller unit will speak to the Wi-Fi unit - will it be BACNET, RS232 or does it have to be ethernet?

wifi is a radio on one side and ethernet on the other.

you can get ethernet to rs232 converters.

you can get relay over IP devices.

as mentioned wi-fi is the radio that is using ethernet protocoll... there are RS232 wireless indyustrial devices... depands on your projects and needs...

if you only wanna read temp then you can look at moded linksys routers, if you know UNIX u can add temp sensor via I2C or JTAG and do whatevere you want w/ that.

Oh yea there is thing called wi-fi weather station, just dont rememnber the link
