wireless over 1km

Trying to get wireless internet from my neighbours, 700 meters in line of sight. What type of equipment do I need, [wireless acess point, or bridge ?] I am not very technical so would appreciate any input on what, where & how.
:confused: I am in a remote location & this is my last hope to get internet & phone via voip, as I have not had much sucess with my new satellite services & can't get mobile & would need to run a land line for 1.5 km ! Help !!

I'f you truly have a clear line of sight ( You can see each spot from the other)
You can use the 2.4 ghz band and 2 outdoor Access Points in Bridge mode would be a fine connection.
You need to be High Tv tower maybe , To be certain a sight survey by a pro is needed. I won't tell you to go buy XX and set it up with out surveying the area.

My brothers house is about 600 meters away from our house. Not sure if there's a clean line of sight but just in case there is, what device would I need to have a connection between our PC's. How much do you think this will cost?

Sure wish I can add much more to the other esteem contributors input. But, I'll like to add this fine book http://www.amazon.com/Wi-Fi-Toys-Wireless-Projects-Entertainment/dp/0764558943; published in 2004 and "hiding in plain" sight. I'll recommend this highly; Chapters 8, 9 and 13 will address your issues, and it's easy to understand, while having lots of everything for everyone. ;)
