Hello,

I administer a small computer network in a rural town without access to DSL. Recently, we've been contacted by a company that's considering establishing a Wi-Fi network in our town. I'm trying to determine its viability as a reliable, high-speed connection to the internet.

My main concerns are:
1. Reliability.
2. Being able to split the connection among the 8 computers in our simple peer-to-peer network (connected via dumb 10/100BaseT hub).
3. Maintaining high speeds after splitting.

I'd love to chat/hear from with anyone who has experience splitting the a Wi-Fi connection. Specifically, I'm trying ot figure out:
--How is the split accomplished?
--Will I need additional equipment?
--How is speed effected?

I would really really appreciate any thoughts or comments.

THANK YOU!!
Ann

Per your posted questions:

--How is the split accomplished? depending on the type of gateway/modem you use to transfer the wireless signal to the ethernet you can use either a hub or a router.

--Will I need additional equipment?
The rest of the equipment is the same as any LAN but will depend on your particular security needs.

--How is speed effected?
It depends on the WISP and the LAN equipment you get just the same as any broadband connection. i.e. switch vs hub

Any other questions feel free to contact us.
