I have a d-link dir 655 setup in my home office in the garage. the wireless signal is strong enough for about half of my home. the entire home is wired with cat 5e with jacks in the bedrooms (the dir-655 is connected to the jacks through cat 5e). so i'd like to know what i can add to my bedroom ethernet jack that will increase the strength of the wireless signal through the rest of the house.

I have an extra dir-655 that i attached through the lan per d-link customer support but that obviously did not work.

did you disable HDCP on the second DIR-655, setup the same wireless setting and connect the cat5 to the LAN side of the router and NOT the WAN side?

using a second router as just a wireless AP should work just fine.

I'm not sure how to do this. This is a link to the setup emulator in case you need it.

How do I do this? What is this?

Thank you.

simple, login, go to the network settings tab/box that is in the left hand column.

Under the router IP address set it to something other than the first router. So say your first router is 192.168.0.1

Set the Second 655 to 192.168.0.2

then below that is a check box that says enable DHCP, un-check that box. then click the save settings button at the top.

once you've done this, just plug the 655 into a cat5 jack in a room where wifi singal isn't working, but make sure you plug it into one of the LAN ports and not the WAN port.

Once you do this you will now have wifi throughout your home.

OK. Sounds easy but...When I plug the router number 2 into router number 1 how do I know which router I am changing the IP address for since they both have the same user interface? Do I do this separately?

Thanks!

plug your PC directly into the second router and not be connected to the first one at all.

Get it configured and then you can re-connect your pc back to the first one.
