I'm trying to set up a wifi system to interconnect several PCs and an internet router/modem. Everything works fine, except that I can't make large (eg 2.5GB) file transfers between PC's. This is an essential requirement, so I'd be grateful for any help.
To start with, I set up just two PC's, connected together and to the router modem (non Wifi) via ethernet cables and an ethernet switch. Everything worked fine. The PCs can see each other and exchange large files. Both PCs can access the internet.
Then I replaced the ethernet switch with a Wifi Access Point (Speedtouch 180), linked to the router via an ethernet cable and linked to the two PCs via Wifi (11g, using TKIP encryption, infrastructure mode). All antennas are within a few feet of each other and reporting "excellent" signal strength and virtually no CRC errors. One PC runs Windows 2000, the other runs XP. All network parameters are as given by windows and have not been changed.
Everything works still fine, EXCEPT that, if I try to copy large files between the PC's (2GB+), Windows loses the connection after a few seconds and reports (for example) that the file can no longer be found. Swapping back to ethernet cable connection, everything works fine once more.
To start with, I was using Windows Netbeui for file sharing. I swapped to using TCP/IP, but with the same result - everything works fine with ethernet cables, but large file transfers fail after a few seconds if Wifi is used.
Thank you for any help in overcoming this problem.
