Good day,
I am going to be setting up a tranzeo 6600 this weekend and have been trying to get up to speed on what I will need to do to successfully complete this. The target area is quite small 600 x 400 ft. The conditions can be extreme in winter down to -50. I have a 6600 with a 12Dbi antenna. The setup looks pretty straight forward on the gui side, but wondered what experience others have had with this AP and if there is any advice is would be very welcome. the company seems to have a good reputation and I hope the product will be stable.
Thanks

Just reading more through the manuals it seems that the 6600 only supports 'b'. Does anybody see this as a problem at a hotspot?? I know speeds may be reduced but do you think the average person still have their laptop set to receive 'b'??
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What is the mfr date on the radio.?
Check the firmware version. I believe the latest is 3.6.0Rt.
If the board inside is new enough it will do G , just needs the latest firmware. Read up on the mfr home page.
You are going to use this for a hot spot? That's a 500 MW radio. Make sure you drop the power by at least 1/2 to start with. The laptops aren't near as strong. Plus depending on the location of the antenna I wouldn't want to be to close to it on a constant basis.
The laptops should all switch to b automatically.

Thanks for the help.
I will definately kick down the power of the unit. this is the unit that was recommended to me because of the extreme conditions as well as for coverage. Is this overkill, would of I done alright with a linksys with dd-wrt and a heated enclosure??
I am not sure of the mfr date, I will receive it on friday, but I can certainly look into the new firmware.
Looking through the manual it looks like the default power is 30Dbm. Are you suggesting kicking this down to 15?? I also have a 12Dbi antenna that will connect. The whole unit will be 12 to 16ft off the ground.
Thanks

OH ya start with the power dbm cut back to half . Test it with a laptop in the areas you want to cover. If the laptop still sees a super strong signal cut it back more.
I have a 6000 set up with a 9 dbi omni on a 60 foot tower it's a 200 mw radio. I can cut thew power back to almost 1/2 before a the clients start to show a signal drop.
Remember for a stable connection the clients need to be able to get there signal back to the AP / works both ways . So even though you hit them with all kinds of power they can't get back to the AP as strong. Also that radio with a 12 dbi antenna might be stronger than the set limits of transmission
