I was looking at the Avaya wireless IP phone models:
3616 and 3626. Aren't they the only two wireless IP (VoIP) phones that Avaya makes, in the 2.4 Ghz band?

The literature says they are both are 802.11b compliant.

Am I correct in thinking that these phones don't need anything special to operate into a 802.11b access point? Because I probably don't need to use Avaya APs.

IOW, I'm thinking the access point is completely "transparent" to the Avaya wireless IP phone, and there is no need at all to use the Avaya access points? Am I right on that?

I am pretty much up on high performance enterprise access points, since I operate a small WISP. I'm figureing I can use some of my high performance 802.11b access points with the Avaya wireless IP phones...to save money and obtain much better range then I could by using the lower power Avaya APs.

Has anyone here used the Avaya wireless IP phones with APs, other then Avaya APs? Seems like the Avaya APs, appear to be high priced Orinoco access points with the Avaya name on them?

Thanks for your input.

Unless Avaya uses some proprietary communication schemes, you should be able to use any access point with QoS capabilities -however- when those phones are communicating using 802.11b, any 802.11g device on the network will drop to 802.11b speeds.
