Question about distance from antenna to base.

Please forgive my ignorance but I have a question regarding the distance between the and antenna to a radio. I want to know how far you can distance an antenna from its base station before I have significant signal loss. Is it similar to the 100ft rule of cat5 cable or someting where you have problems with collision?

I would guess using LMR 400 coax ( expensive) But good , the loss would start after a couple of feet. Now does this mean 20 or 30 feet will hurt the performance in your setup? The rest of the variables must come into play to determine that question.
A poorly installed connector can result in loss.
I use 12 to 15 feet in one installation and 19 dbi grid antennas. Works well!
