need help getting started

Hi... I have a dell laptop that is wi fi enabled (i know this cuz i cna go to my mom's home and use her wi fi). I am interested in setting up wireles internet form my new home. I do not have a PC. I do have a basement, first and second floor and approx, 1200 sq ft. I also have DSL (wired) which seems silly since i have a laptop. I want to loose the cords but i don't really know what i need... all suggestions are appreciated.:confused: :confused:

I would start with a simple wireless router. Put it in the place say that lets you have good signal in the 2 or 3 spots you are most likely to use your laptop.
If more coverage is needed now or later on you can cable to that location and add a second router or an access point in that area. I really recommend staying away from repeaters unless cables are not an option AT ALL for connecting second and or third wireless devices.
