The tutorial claims that 5GHz offers a more secure solution due to the restriction in range of coverage from access points

As I understood it the data rates degrade with distance more rapidly using the 5GHz spectrum. Positioned at 100m from an access point the 5GHz WLAN will still be able to be accessed by a user (or hacker), just with a lower bit rate.

Surely the security policy of the company / network managers is the most important issue.

Agreed. While at higher frequencies (and with all other things being equal) your signals will fade quicker due to the inverse square law, they are still readable from a distance, especially with the aid of high-gain antennas.

From a security perspective, you should consider 802.11a (and 802.11g, for that matter) the same as 802.11b. Our AirFortress works with all three technologies.
