Hi,
again here with a problem...

As you might read my previous and only post, i had some issues with my Linksys WRT54GC, so far (4 months now, it has been working with the same issues) so i got tired of it, now i purchased a new wireless router (access point, for those who know), so i got myself a D-Link DI-524, which was working good, but then, one day, i was updating the firmware and something really stupid happened (sorry for the word...), my mom was walking by and d/c the power plug from the router.... so know it is bricked... and all the led lights on the access point are on, and i cant get a connection, either wired or wireless, so, is there anyway to fix this issue??? or is it possible to change the OS on my old access point (Linksys WRT54GC), notice that my old access point has less than 1mb of space, so i can't use any (that i know of) of the free OS for router's that roam around the internet...

Anyone can help me??

The source code for the WRT54GC has never been released so it will be very hard for anyone to write an after market version of software.

What problems do you have with the router?

I notice there have been several updates to the software. Are you running the latest version?

On the WRT54G there is a method to fix a router that has been bricked. They have a small boot loader that does not get erased when you do an update. I have no idea if the DI-524 has that feature or not.

Here is a link that discusses the WRT54G methods.

From your post I assume that the DLink was the one that has the problem. I would suggest calling DLink. I would suspect that they will want you to send it in, though. But as Wilton mentioned, they may have a backdoor application just for this problem.

Just to help you to use the correct terminology, both of those devices are wireless routers and not just AP's, as they have switches and routing capabilities.

OK, thanks for the tip... now a few things, no, i am not under warranty, sadly in my country people doesn't know what the heck is that, 2nd, the flash with the screwdriver, I've already tried that and still the same... so i think that if that's the last solution, i gained myself a nice paperweight... now on the linksys router... what can i do, i already tried some tricks, that made my connection last longer (like for example, uninstalling the realtek utility along with the driver, downloading the latest driver, and using WZC to connect to the wireless, then after it is connected, disable the WZCSVC with a batch file and it takes longer now to disconnect *3-4hours* however, i don't like disconnections, mostly when i am playing or when i am downloading some heavy stuff), now, i must tell you that is not a windows nor drivers issue, since i have Linux (Ubuntu) on my laptop and still disconnects from time to time (however on Linux it takes less time to disconnect), so what would be the best recommendation??

Get a new router???
or any other ideas???
by the way the configuration on my system is now different

Laptop:
Gateway, 2 gb ram, with realtek rtl8187 802.11g 54Mbps
Wireless configuration handled by WZC and service stopped when it connects

Router:
Linksys WRT54GC, ver 1.05.7 (latest rev)

Wireless Configuration on Router:
Chanel 11
G only (when i was on mixed mode, connection lasted less than 45 mins...)
SSID broadcast enabled
No wireless security
No MAC filter
Automatic authentication
Automatic transmission rate
Basic Rate: all
CTS Protection: Auto
DTIM interval: 1
Fragmentation Threshold: 2304
RTS Threshold: 2304
Beacon Interval: 50

Wireless Configuration on Laptop:
Channel 11
Channel Plan: DOMAIN_FROM_EEPRO
Fragmentation Threshold: 2304
IBSS Default 11b Mode: Disable
Led Control: Enable (???)
Long Retry Limit: 7
Maximum Packet Size: 1514 (???)
Network Type: Infrastructure
Power Save Mode: CAM
Rate Adaptive: Enable
RTS Threshold: 2304
Short Retry Limit: 7
SSID: any

So... i don't know if it is a configuration error or the actual linksys router is the one failing...

I may have missed it, but are there any other wireless networks in your area? Any other possible RF sources? Have you tried a different channel?

Yep, tried different channels, but no good... about interferences... i have a d-link dwl-g820 for my PS2, but... its bricked as well, however is not even pluged in to the power, and any other interference might be the wireless phone, but my problem is always not with someone using the phone... oh, and do you know how to "unbrick" the dwl-g820 by the way, i really would like to play socom3 with the updates :)

If your wireless card is supported by Netstumbler, then I would like to see a printout of the link quality. You click on your SSID on the left side of the screen and let it run until you get a disconnect. Do a screen capture of the netstumber page and post it so we can look at it.

You will also see if there are any other wireless networks in your area.

I am not familiar with DWL-g820 so I put it into Google. There are a lot of people complaining about that router. If it were mine, I probably would not spend much time trying to fix it.
