I have the "WPA/WPA2" setting enabled on my router (Belkin Wireless G Router) so it can accept both types of connections. I have two computers and one Netgear wireless print server. All three of those work perfectly on the network with no compatibility or connection problems.

I recently bought a Netgear 108G Wireless Bridge (DWL-G820 rev. B). I am trying to use it to connect my Xbox 360 wirelessly. Well, I went through and set it all up. For some reason, it would not connect to the network. I went through, reset it, and did it again and still had problems. I noticed that it has a telnet daemon on it which automatically will send me error messages that the normal GUI will not tell me. So, I telnetted into it to see what it had to say. It kept repeatedly saying this:

STA mode not connected with remote AP! restart!!
wireless client restarting...
STA mode not connected with remote AP! restart!!
wireless client restarting...

etc.

So I called tech support and they were clueless because they had no idea about wireless networks at all. I was telling the lady everything that I configured and what was wrong. She did not understand what an IP address was and had to ask her supervisor  Nor did she know what the Spanning Tree Protocol was.

I am not entirely sure what STA stands for, but I am just going to guess it means Spanning Tree Algorithm. However, this makes no sense since I do not have a spanning tree set up with my network nor any redundant topologies on switches. The only switch I have is the one built into the Belkin router, and only one computer is directly connected to it.

So, I experimented around. I enabled WEP on the router and configured WEP on the bridge. To my surprise, it was working fine and could connect. However, I would not like to use WEP since it provides a false sense of security and can easily be cracked.

It has something to do with WPA, but I have no idea how to fix it. What do you guys think is wrong? I am honestly at a loss on this one

STA refers to STATION. I also might suggest de-rating the new router to use just 802.11g. The speed boosting done by the NetGear is proprietary and it maybe incompatible with other technologies.
