Ok, i've got kind of a difficult situation here. There are 4 computers in my household, and we have DSL. The linksys wireless router we use randomly stops working, so I used to have to frequently go unplug it and replug it in to get it working. This was a big problem with large downloads, torrents, etc. Anyway, on to my problem.

I'd like all 4 computers in my house to be on a single LAN. As it is, none of them seem to recognize each other. This is becuase I have a weird internet setup. it goes like this.

INTERNET ---> phone line ---> modem ---> my computer -------(2nd network card)--------> wireless router ---> other 3 computers

as you can see, this is quite the unique setup. It works for me because, when my router quits my internet doesnt.

When I go into network setup from the control panel, two "Local Area Connections" are shown. The one that deals with my modem to PC connection is shared and the one that deals with my PC to router connection isnt shared. This setup works, in that all the computers in the house have an internet connection. I'd like to get it set up so that all 4 computers are on the same LAN, however. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could accomplish this?

thanks for the help.

I see two issues. First the router has a problem, not sure what model, but consumer grade equipment is known for this problem and I would get a different and business grade router to eliminate that problem.

Second your network topology although working is not the most efficient or secure approach. I understand your position about being upstream of the wireless device, but just because you do not want to worry about being dropped. As I said earlier, I would get a better device, and then locate all computers down stream of it. Then follow the guidelines published on this link.
