Hey everyone,

Great forums you have here! Hopefully I can get some help with this frustrating problem. I run a Realtek wireless card on my laptop.

At Home) We use a linksys router, and everything is peachy. The connection holds even though it is about 20 feet away and through 3 or 4 walls.

At School) At school, there are access points everywhere. I sit in classes close enough to the routers to see them (about 10-15 feet no walls). My connection drops/picks up/drop/ picks up. It only happens in certain classes. When I look at the signal strength, it is excellent or very good and then nothing. Seconds later, it reconnects.

What I have tried:
1) I am also a Linux user. I have a similar problem at school with Linux, but I think the problem there lies in the fact that the driver doesn't show signal strength, so the wireless is hopping from access point to access point (the use the same ssid).

2) I have tried pinging the router -t. I did see some minor latency slow downs (down to about 17ms), but I couldn't see what else would be causing the problem.

I am frustrated because I sit with others (right next to many other people!) and they don't have the same problem. Even a student with the exact same model doesn't have the problem.

What are some troubleshooting steps I could take, or wireless diagnostic utilities I could try?

Thanks a ton,

Brandon
