I have a Wireless DSL router through verizon in my basement office (I know, not the best location, but that's where the office is located) about 75' from the house, we've just added a barn that I'd like to get a more reliable signal to.

Currently I get a very faint signal when I place my laptop in the closest window on the second level. I've read a bit about repeaters and additional access points, but I don't know the best (and most cost efficient) solution.

I've thought about placing a repeater in the upstairs window of the house and then a second repeater in the barn window.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I would get an access point ,cable it to your router . Try setting it in a window at the house .
But for best performance I would have it Outside in a plastic weather proof box or buy an out door unit. Like some of the models found here

Also if your handy you might search this forum for (Building A WIFI Antenna) thread. This would or could allow you to keep the AP in the house and set an antenna outside to direct the signal to your barn.

Either one will cost about the same . The most important thing to remember if you run an antenna is coax length. Keep it short.
