We recently had an almost new cordless phone set, go bad, due to a battery charging issue. It is a Vtech phone and lots of people are complaining about it on the internet.

This time I decided to do some research before purchasing another set. One of the posts that I read opened my eyes to something I had never thought of.

A person purchased a set of 5.8Ghz phones. They chose that frequency to stay away from 2.4Ghz because they had a wireless router. After getting the phones they found that it still messed up their wireless internet connection. Upon checking, they found that the phone to base station signal was 5.8Ghz but there was a phone to phone connection and that was 2.4Ghz. The author of the post stated that the 2.4Ghz connection takes less power to run so they use that for phone to phone communication.

The phone to phone signal was what was messing up his internet.

If I understand this correctly, the function is called "handset-to-handset intercom". This is a function I do not need but I noticed that many of the advertisements do not mention this function so you do not know what ones have it and what ones do not.

I need to know what current production cordless phones work well in a house setup with wireless internet?

Sounds bad, but if you can find an older 900MHz phone it will be the best.

I try to steer people to use 802.11a for their home netowrk and then not worry about everything else. 802.11b/g is going to get full sooner or later, might as well jump now. Many of the clients that are in a dense population area have been quite relieved to make the change as it has removed all sorts of problems.

I am not surprised that what you mentioned is not common knowledge amongst most consumers, but it is for us IT types that have to fight that battle on a daily basis. I only mention this as I appreciate the heads up. I forget to mention these sorts of things all of the time.
