Hi guys!

Is it correct to say that a hotspot supports 802.11i standard? if yes, is there a way to know that a certain hotspot supports it? thanks in advance for those who will reply to this.

Why would you want that at a Hotspot?

i know that a hotspot is for public use. my job is to validate if the free wireless access for our place deployed by our subcontractors supports 802.11i. the subcontractors dont want to divulge the information about the APs. the only answer i gave to my boss is to know the AP model. from the AP model we will be able to know if it supports 802.11i. i really dont have any idea.

You should also know from the network design as well as if the devices are current enough to support 802.11i. As a sub contractor and providing a service to you, I would not take kindly to them not providing any information you required. I would not likely use them again.

What is the equipment and are you also using those devices for private wireless networks? They may be able to setup VLANs on the devices and that could be were 802.11i comes into play.

THanks!!!!

I think this is the only way to deal with them... The information about the AP models and network design must be divulge to me. Anyway, its only for network audit.

I will start a more interesting thread for us to discuss with the members. I think my hotspot network audit will be intgeresting for the rest of the readers. Again, Thanks a lot.
