I currently have a wireless broadband connection from my local ISP and am having some RF interference issues. Line of sight between my antenna and the repeater is about 7 miles. The local airport (small, no commercial flights) is nearby. I suspect I may be receiving interference from them. The ISP had a 1 watt amp on the repeater and had problems with it creating too much noise and dropping packets like crazy. They took it out (new one on order) and now my signal strength is low but I still have a consistent connection however, I'm being disconnected for short intervals on a regular basis. I purchased a 1 watt bi-directional amp for myself hoping it would help my situation and it boosts my signal, however it also boosts the noise and drowns out my connection (meaning I can't browse at all). Is there such a thing as a filter for the RF interference noise? Or is there an amp that has a really good noise filter? My amp is rated at 17db gain, 3.5 db noise figure.

I'm using an Avaya (Orinoco) USB card connected to an external antenna. The client mgr software shows the signal meter for a link test and with the amp, the noise bar is just behind the signal bar. I work from home and it is imperative I have a consistent connection. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for helping a novice wireless user.

What kind of antenna are you using? If you use
a more directional antenna you will isolate noise.

I'm using a 2.4Ghz parabolic grid antenna as supplied by my ISP. I have a bandpass filter on order and hope that it will help. The local airport is between my antenna and the repeater. It's a small airport with no commercial flights, but I suspect it may be causing some RF interference. Has anyone had any success with bandpass filters? It's supposed to filter out all but 2400 to 2084Mhz.

Curious, where and what did you pay for your bandpass
filter? Im thinking about developing one. Should be able
to for <100$

I purchased mine from www.fab-corp.com click on accessories and it's about half way down the page. It's $79.98. I also ordered the 1 watt indoor amp hoping to inprove my signal, but it increased too much of the noise and drowns out my connection, so I ordered a bandpass filter to see if it will correct that problem. They have been very helpful and I recommend them to anyone.

would you mind telling me how the filter worked out?
I've been working for a while on an outdoor lan application, requireing a lot more range than standard 802.11 b (around 2 km), and had similar problems with the amplifiers not really improving signal to noise.
