Orinoco - WindowsXP - Nightmare

Here is the situation:

Access Point AS-2000 re-configured to AS-3
12 dbi antenna, 15 foot
Gold Orinoco card, 128 wep, MAC enabled. Closed system

My computer, 4 year old Toshiba, Win98 (not se)
Friends computer, 3 year old, Win98se
Gold Orinoco installed, Wep and MAC set.
NO problems with signal, 5 to 11 depending on distance.

1 Friend, new Toshiba with MAC installed and, Windows XP, wep and MAC checked
1 Friend new computer, Orinoco Gold installed, Windows XP, wep and MAC checked
1 Friend old computer, Orinoco Gold installed, Windows XP, wep and MAC checked

ZILCH ON THE XP connections following instructions provided.

Turn off wep and MAC authentification and see what happens.
Update firmware on the Orinoco Card and get latest drivers for XP.

Orinoco cards read firmware 8.1
XP says NO to using Orinoco software
Local hackers (harmless) would love to find an open door, can't stop any WEP. Still working on solution.
