Netgear MR814 base station.
Generic (EnGenius) USB wireless adapter.
I'm getting 100 % signal strength and link quality. My adapter is picking up my base station fine. But why can't I go to any web sites. It's as though, and I probably am, not connected to the Internet.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
John

I support the base stations (Cisco I presume) on almost every day. It really sounds like you are running into a subnet issue with your IP addresses.
The Base stations pull an IP address from the ISP and then they NAT your local address accross the internet. If your card is associated to the Base Station and you can Ping the base stations IP address, I would suggest that you shut off your base station for 5-10 (also shut off your computer). Then re-connect the Base Station to the internet followed by re-starting your Computer.
Good Luck,
JEFF

Thanks so much for your response. I think I've identified the problem with the help of two separate computer store proprietors. I tried a PCI adapter, in fact two separate ones, and couldn't get it to work. It showed up in Device Manager but with an exclamation point. In Properties for the adapter I got a message saying that the "device is disabled because its bios did not assign an irq." It wanted me to go into the bios and do it manually. I have a times gone one step too far trying to fix things, so this time I got smart and took the computer in to the local computer shop. He had it for two days and could fix the problem. He suggested I look for an ISA adapter and try it. Took the computer to another computer store about 25 miles away. He, too, failed to get it going and finally said the computer is too old (1996) and is not networkable. I ended up buying a brand new nice little ASUS computer from him for $599. Celeron 1.7, 128mb RAM, 20mb hard drive, four USB ports and a flash card reader under a door in front, network interface card. Took it home plugged it in and, voilla! Works like a champ. Gave up on the wireless and bought a nice Microsoft Ethernet router and ran 40 feet of cable. Got online sharing my cable connection and got a joyfull download speed of 3.5 megabits per second.
All is well! Now I'll give the old machine to my son and he can use it in dial-up mode to play with his AOL.
Thanks again for your help.
