Can someone help a newbie?

I'm trying to save some money and not pay Comcast $50 per month for internet. I purchased a long distance wifi antenna from Squitter electronics. Then I picked up a wifi pci card to convert my home pc to wireless as well. The little system works fair but I'm trying to tap into City of Haywards free wifi they offer. Just a little out of reach.

Anyone have any ideas? I posted my antenna on the roof and I pointed towards the source about 4 miles away.

Seems like a wild idea but I'm determined.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you describe the network you setup in more detail? Where is the antenna in relation to the computer? How long is the coaxial cable run? Do you have clear Line of Site to the remote node? What is the model and dBi gain of the antenna?

A signal 4 miles away is not a trivial adventure, but if you have clear LoS and are willing to spend some money it maybe possible to set this up.
