I have a desktop PC running Windows XP and laptop Powerbook with Mac OS X 10.4.7. I have no problems sharing an internet connection through a D-Link broadband router, but I can't seem to figure out how to share my printer. Currently the printer is connected directly to my desktop PC. I've tried creating a network on the PC, but my mac doesn't seem to recognize it. Do I need to get extra equipment like a print server? Or is there software (preferably cheap) that will allow me to create a home network with PC and mac? I've looked at DAVE, but I'm not sure if I should take the plunge and purchase it.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I'm still having trouble getting it to work.

I was able to set up postscripted printer with a successful test page. When it came to setting up the "LPR" printer on the PC, I had to enter my computer name in order for it to work. My PC wouldn't recognize the IP address. However, when I tried to set up the printer on my Mac, I had to enter the IP address. The mac seemed to be able to "connect" to the PC, but during a test print, the print utility window kept blinking between "transmitting" and "connencting to" and "complete" without anything printing out.

Any suggestions?

One other thing was that the link shows examples of the printer utility on Mac, but mine looks slightly different with options to enter protocol, address, queue, name, location, and printer model.
