Greetings

I am working to setup monitoring to a "mall" that has 4 access points for the public's use.

I have have ssh access into each access point to view stats and various informational settings, however, I would like to find a way to combat the occassional support call that says " someone says they can't connect".

Is there a device that I can leave roaming the network that will be able to tell me if a certain AP is not fuctioning?

All 4 access points are on different channels and SSID.

Thanks for your suggestions

Dan

Companies like network chemistry, air magnet, adventnet etc. have hardware sensors that can be plugged into your network to scan. This generally is a security feature more than a monitoring one.

If you are looking into just checking if your is up or down, you can try wifi manager from adventnet. It is software and works without the sensor and will get you the details you are looking for. Airwave has a similar solution too.

Unless you're covering 100% of the mall, you will always get a call from someone who can't connect.

If the AP's have syslog capabilites, this will show repeated attempts to associate.
