I have a D-Link AirPlus DWL-G520 card in my computer that connects to a Senao AP 2611 about 100m away with no problems. I have tried to connect to another Senao about 4 klms away but cannot. There is plenty of signal strength but it will not connect. The Senao that is 4 k away has a 24 db antenna on it and I have a 9 db one on the D-Link AirPlus DWL-G520. Does anyone know if the distance is the problem or what?
Just like your other post we need more details, please. What kind of antennas? What does the physical terrain look like between the two points.? What does "plenty of signal strength" mean? Are there any other wireless networks in the vicinity or other RF that might cause interference?
Check out these calculations, they are used for long distance links. The two most important are SOM and Fresnel Clearance Zone. You typically need a SOM of 20-25dB in order to keep a sustainable link.

I would say, without any more info than you have given us, that you can see the Senao with its whopper of an antenna, but it can't see you.

I checked the SOM and it seems to be about 25 dbm but I rechecked the SNR and sig level which were originally snr 30 and sig -70 but the sig is now -84 and SNR 16 so that is probably why it can't connect.
I agree. I also would like to ask a favor and focus on one thread. It would be less confusing and we can handle both of the issues at one time.
