Hi,

I have an SMC Wireless PCI card in my Win 98 PC that averages about 60% signal quality with my SMC Wireless Router. Occasionally, the signal quality drops to poor and finally goes "into the red". At this point, my PC freezes and then reboots. Does anyone know what may cause these (signal loss/reboot)?

Thanks,
Dana

OK, it just happened to me again. This time the signal didn't appear to be lost. I'm thinking maybe the CPU is overheating. Can the addition of a wireless PCI card be the "straw that broke the camel's back"? Any help appreciated.

I've seen this exact same behavior when in the presence of interfering 2.4 GHz phones.

I don't have any 2.4GHz phones. But I did update the driver, and that seemed to fix the problem. Funny thing about those SMC products - they don't seem to work correctly right out of the box. My wireless router required a firmware upgrade; My wireless PCI card required the latest driver. Now I have (should I say it?) a flawless network!
