Hi,

I'll start with the usual, "Hi, I'm new here...."

So here I am, with a nagging GF on my case, so a little help would be welcome... if only to save me from going mad....

So I have this problem....

I have absolutely no connectivity.!.!

I'm using a Belkin 54g router Wifi 125, with a Belkin G series card in my main desktop, one gateway centrino laptop, and my GF's HP laptop. I also have a wifi pda. All pc's are running XP sp2.

All have no signal from the Router...

I have,so far, contacted my ISP, Belkin (having changed the router), I replaced the main wall socket, banged my head on the underside of the desk (twice!!) much to the amusement of all who've come to watch....

So I have the suspicion that there is a malfunctioning setting within a local network that I set up, (or perhaps didn't properly, as the case may be)

I also used limewire for a little while, I gather that this might have had some issues??

But what am I to do, as I've been at this for the last 48 hours... and I really need to be back on line, via the wifi rather than an ethernet cable and my laptop on my knees....

Anyhelp gratiously welcome....

Phil

First quit banging your head. :-)

Next are you saying that if you connect to the router via an Ethernet cable you get a connection to the Internet? If so then at least we know that aspect works. If you have anything other than the default settings on the router reset them now. For now we want encryption off and no special settings. What is the router connected to a DSL/cable modem?

Next on one of the computers, do you have a third party firewall or security suite, if so disable it or uninstall it if you are not sure. Then you need to go to the network connections popup and follow this link to make sure the connection is setup to receive the address automatically.

Then follow the steps in this next link to setup the router and client adapters. Except for the encryption at this time.

One other comment is to let us know if there are other wireless networks in your vicinity, you can tell by using the WZC application. f there are strong ones nearby you maybe trying to attach to them instead.

A last thought is there are several stickies at the beginning of this section of the forum, you may want to read them as well.

Hi,

thanks for the reply.

Yes, I do get service through the router/adsl modem. Via an ethernet cable into the router.

I have Mcafee on my laptop, and Norton Internet on the main desktop.

The firewall is off at the mo, on my laptop, where I am writing from.

Installed the WZC local help, and show that the Wifi is available. (mine being the only one in the locality, it's all old people who live here)

And it is intermittently connecting to the service, in the time it has taken me to do this , and write about it had dropped in and out 5 times.

The way I see it is that there is a conflict (software), as the signal is strong, the Wifi in my laptop sees it. It's just maintaining a signal it is struggling with.

Any suggestions welcome...
