I still connect to 100baseT to backup my laptops to a networked DVD-RAM, RF is just toooo slow.

I just put a Proxim's Skyline CardBus 802.11a adapter on my notebook and hook up an Access Points Skyline 802.11a, set it on Turbo mode ... and transfer a 4 GB files in a matter of minutes (well, actually close to 15-20 minutes). This gives me a throughput of something 50-60 Mbps, very comparable to 100 Mbps NIC.

The recent approved proposal by the IEEE Task Group i for TKIP (protection against "Weak IV" attacks) attacks from WEP key cracking programs like AirSnort have been successfully mitigaged.

I think a big misconception is that wireless is a no-brainer to install and setup.

The reality is that an effective wireless network requires a detailed site survey and extensive planning to insure the best coverage and signal strengths with no dead areas so that the highest speeds are used.

Simply put, security.
802.11 has WEP key securtiy and is more secure and reliable to wired.
