I was reading a lot about VoIP recently and will probably try one of these 3 services:
Vonage
iConnectHere
CordiaIP

I already use Skype.

The question is: what kind of software / hardware do you need to become a VoIP Service Provider? Do you need to have interconnection agreements with major carriers from all over the world?
If you have a strong business client base from 3rd world countries -who would definitely benefit on saving a few cents on international calls due to the nature of their business-, what would be the best business model to enter the VoIP market? I am talking here about a technical solution, not the marketing part. Should we (1) try to become a private label reseller of an older / bigger VoIP company or (2) better invest in our own infrastructure and try to build our own system?
If (1) do you have any experience with a VoIP service provider that offers a similar feature? Or any suggestion that might help.

I know... I asked many questions (as usual). :)

Market research will answer your questions. For example, if you think there's a potential client base for your new service, how come they aren't using VOIP services that are currently available? How long would it take for you to establish credibility and at what cost? Why would I choose your service over Vonage? Of all the VOIP service providers, who's the most successful and why? How many users and how long would it take to get a return on your investment?

I'm not trying to be difficult, but research, research, and more research about the market, provides the answers to your questions.

I have been using www.lingo.com. It has great service. It is cheap for only $19.95/month. I got call to European countries for free.

I think maybe starting as a reseller first would be a good idea. From there you can study the market, make feasibility studies and see if you really can make it on your own. Don't forget that if you go and start your own, then you definitely need a bigger budget.

Hello everyone, I have Comcast (Local cable internet provider) Along with Vonage (VOIP) and I like to play my PS2 Online. The PS2 is "laggy" and sometime my phone is "choppy". Needless to say my PC sometimes is slowed way down cause of the connection. I have a D-Link wireless router and all the connections are hardwired. What is the best router for VOIP and online gaming?

Check your net speed at speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net) to see what's your current download and upload connection speed.

I also use a D-link DIR-300 (http://www.dlink.com.au/Products.aspx?Sec=1&Sub1=2&Sub2=5&PID=337) with my Onesuite.com voip service (http://www.onesuite.com/access_VOIP.asp) and I get very good call quality. Mind you, its on Wi-fi and still good connection. My speedtest result varies from 1.5mbps to 2mbps depending on time and day.
