My laptop comes with built in WiFi, do I still need a wireless network adapter(PCI card - thing)?

Thanks!

It would seem that you do not need one. But to be sure exactly what are you trying to accomplish?

We live on details and give better answers with them. Just give us as much information as you can and then we will bug you for more if needed.

Hi. Thanks for your reply.

I'm trying to set up a wireless network and am totally lost in how to do it.

I have a desktop and it is conntected to the internet via a wireless router. I want to set up a wireless connection/network for my laptop. Like I said I am totally lost in how to set up setup a wireless network? How do I know there is even a wireless signal?

Both computers work on XP. When I try to set one up in Network Connections it doesn't work. On my desktop, in my Network Connections, Under: Internet Gateway, I have an Internet Connection, that is connected. Under LAN or High Speed Connection I have a Local Area Connection: that says it is connected and says it's shared. And under the same thing I have a Wireless Area Connection with a red cross next to it, that says that it is not connected. And on my laptop the LAN and wireless connection both have red crosses next to them.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The desktop is not connecting via wireless. So I assume that you mean you have a wireless router in the house with cable or DSL or a similar ISP and not a wireless ISP.

What is the brand/model of the router?

Now on the notebook get to that window where you saw the red X by the wireless connection. Right click on that connection and see if it says enable or disable? If it says disable then leave it alone. It needs to be enabled.

Then follow the steps on this link to get started.
