I'm having trouble downloading a file from the internet through my wireless network. The download stops but there isn't any notification (server reset, connection lost, etc). The file is .Net Framework from Microsoft and is 23mb. I'm pretty sure it's the router or adapter cause I was able to download without trouble when connected directly to the modem. The link status on the adapter says signal quality is -60 dBm and current noise level is -91 dBm
Computer is only 8-10 feet away from the router and is in the same room
Can anyone help me please?
That is a terrible S/N ratio for being that close. Have you tried an different channel? Sounds like other wireless networks in the vicinity. Also read the sticky about WZC at the top of this section.

Thanks for the reply M/Q. The noise level I first posted was from the utility that came with the adapter. Using Netstumbler however had different results. SNR is 52, which is good right? The acceptable level is 34 so I'm supposed to be in the clear. There are other networks around. I've also tried switching channels. If noise was the problem then why does the download stop even when I'm monitoring the SNR and seeing there's no change in levels? What else could be the cause? My router is a Belkin G. Firmware is updated.

You shouldn't be having any issues. Make sure you have Service Pack 2 on the computer and the newest firmware on the router.

Yes, everythings updated.
Download failure also happens with other files. Not just from Microsoft. Does the ISP speed have something to do with it? My speed now is throttled down to 64kbps. I get download speeds of 8KBps. I have to wait till my monthly allowance is refreshed and speeds come back to 256kbps to check if thats the culprit.
If you have more than one computer on the network passing files between them should tell you whether it is your network or the bandwidth throttling being applied to the connection.
