I have set up a home network based around a Dlink DI-624 router, with a Dlink antenna attached to it (ANT24-0700). The network is located in my detached garage and we are trying to get consistent wireless access in the house (25 to 50 feet away). The system works fine when my METAL faced garage door is up. When it is down the signal is erased. Dlink techinical support suggested adding an amplifier to the system; I would like to avoid doing so as it seems to be overkill. I was planning on buying an extension cable to mount the antenna up above the metal door so the signal could broadcast over top of the door. But Dlink tech thought the range would degrade too much with the extended cable (roughly 5 feet).

I would like to avoid having to hard connect to a repeater or access point in the house. I don't believe I can use the Dlink ap DWL-7100AP with my current system. Any thoughts? I'm all ears.

I would try the extension to the antenna. That is the cheapest first try. To over come the cable loss you could go to a directional antenna and its higher gain.

Check out www.fab-corp.com for higher gain antennas at a cheaper price.

I've ordered an extension cable. Hopefully that will do the trick. I see that FAB Corp also sells in line amplifiers. Thanks
