Hello everyone,

I came to these forums hoping to get a problem solved for my house networking. I'm somewhat of a neophyte when it comes to networking, so some of my terminology might be a bit off.

In my house, we have two computer areas. Each area has a couple of computers at each location. Area #1 is my office and has the main cable modem, and wireless router for the laptops in the house. Area #2 is the game room where the video game consoles and gaming computers are located.

So I do not have to buy a seperate wireless adapter for each system in Area #2, I was hoping to make a gaming "LAN" for Area #2 whose "WAN" is connected wirelessly to Area #1.

Is there a way to do this with two wireless routers (one for Area #1 and one for Area #2), or would I need a wired router for Area #2 whose WAN connection goes to a wireless adapter?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

P.S. Would there be a benefit towards getting the Linksys SRX technology or D-Link's Xtreme G technology for these routers?

See the "Connecting WiFi Signal to two Computers " thread in this same forum for info on how to do this. Also here's a link to another forum with info on this subject:

While I have not done it yet, it looks like you can do just as you want using a wireless "bridge" device that you would setup in your Lan area #2, and then connect that bridge to either a standard hub or a second wireless access point.

Jgoeke has it exactly correct. I just wanted to humbly expand on a few points that most people overlook when they start the purchase process.

If you can get a good link with a wireless device where Lan2 is located you can do as they suggested. Just make sure it is a device that will bridge and preferably of the same brand as the wireless router. So that usually means getting an access point.

The access point in simplistic terms will replace a Ethernet cable run back to initial router. And as they mentioned all you need is a switch/hub from the access point to your computers.

Now please remember it needs to be a wireless device that acts as a bridge client and most wireless routers will not do that, you need an access point or a specialized bridge device.
