anyone know of site survey software that can be used with lan based panels

ie - we have a 5ghz wifi panel that uses poe and comes down into either a router or direct into the pc/laptop - it doesnt come with any survey software so its a point, put in the ssid and hope you can ping - theres no way of scanning and choosing which tower to associate with

What is the brand/model of that device? I find it really strange that there is not even any logging of IP or MAC addrs that are being sensed by the device.

Does the device have different modes like bridging where you could temporarily configure it as such and find available devices?

i dont know the model off hand and cant find out till monday but its not just that really - basically its getting software that will use lan based client devices to scan

we use aeronauts on 2.4ghz for local clients and they have a web based admin which will scan and be able to select but there isnt a scanning section on the 5ghz ones we want to use to initially bridge between "home" and local "repeaters"

another way of putting it would be for example if you connect up an aeronaut direct into your pc and instead of using the aeronauts built in scanning you use software on the pc to be able to scan for broadcasts which you can then manually put in the best ssid and channel

if that makes sense :)

The only way I know of any scanning is as you have mentioned and I did in my original post where you are in a bridge or wireless client mode. I know of no software that will put another device into promiscuous mode and allow it to scan and then report back to the client computer. Other than Cisco AP management software or if you have a wireless gateway in the mix. That is also why I asked of you had done that with the device in question.
