WLAN coverage for large outdoor area

I am working on an outdoor site survey for a large campus enviornment (~4 million sf) and have been looking for examples of how others have done it. I have been surveying and installing WLAN and WWANs for a number of years, including building perimeters and courtyards, but this is larger than I've experienced before. Web research has turned up many examples of city and school outside WLANs with limited or projected coverage, with little detail. Does anyone know of white papers or reports of how others have covered these large areas? I have several options on how to extend coverage and would like to exchange ideas with anyone interested or has experience in large open areas.
