Hi for all!
My friend shared with me the ConfigFree software. He has a Toshiba Notebook.
Who donīt know this software, it looks like an aeroplane radar.
I have a Dell notebook and I would like to use this software.
But on the application starts, I have this message: Does not function in this system.
Is possible to do the software work with my computer?
Do you know any software like ConfigFree?
Best regards!
Daniel

It can be made to run on other computers.
Install it.
Then open regedit.
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->TOSHIBA>configfree
Locate the "Instcheck" tab on the right side of the screen.
Set value to a toshiba laptop model i.e. "Satellite 5205"
the line in the right hand side of regedit should appear as this:
InstCheck Reg_SZ Satellite M45
If there is not an entry on the right for "Instcheck" you must add or create a new string value for it under ConfigFree entry and possibly even the "ConfigFree" on the left under Toshiba as well.
Excellent idea, but I would like to inject a word of caution. Unless you are comfortable working with the registry, I would be hesitant to attempt this.
Also a backup of the registry and using proper techniques to add or modify a registry key should be used, to avoid crashing the computer.
Just a thought.

I downloaded config free from the Toshiba website, installed it... I tried the registry hack, but it still says "does not function in this system" when I attempt to boot it up. I have read out there other people were able to make this function with a Dell Laptop similar to mine, any help on this one?
I'm pretty sure I did everything as needed....

TOSHIBA program called ConfigFree for Laptops with WI-FI, looks like a RADAR showing WI-FI Access Points, its made for Toshiba Laptops Only.
You ask: Can I buy this software? Per Toshiba site.
No, this software is only available with selected Toshiba notebook models. Users are able to download the ConfigFree software or any upgrade version for use on selected Toshiba notebooks, including some models, which did not originally ship with the software.
WELL I did it. (It worked for me on HP Pavilion ze2800 series and a Dell Latitude C-600 and a Compaq Desktop ethernet).
For those of us that dont have Toshiba laptops, REGEDIT option can be made to run on other Laptop Manufacture Models.

Like some others, I enjoy using Config Free and
it was installed on my U205-5044 originally under
XP.
Now, with VISTA, I am trying to get it going
again -- but can't seem to bring up that
little pop up graphical menu that comes in
from the side of the screen (not the radar
which I have been successful at getting going).
Can anyone help on that?
Thanks

I've A HP Pavilion dv2000 'N' This Software Works Flawlessly.
It Looks Great 2! [Nice Visual Config Options]
I've Noticed That Although Most Ppl Mention That It Has Worked For Them, Nobody Makes Mentions Of How Exactly They Edited Their Registry.
For My HP Pavilion dv2000 I Did The Following To Make It Work.
Downloaded The File, Extracted The File, Installed The File, Rebooted My OS,
Edited My Registry, Launched The App...Enjoying. =D
Followed The Instructions To Locate The Folder In The Registry.
Once There I Just Added [APPLIES For THIS MODEL(HP PAVILION DV2000] The Following :: "Pavilion dv2000" [Without Quotes]
I Hope My Share Helps To Clear Out One More Layer Of Doubt/Confusion For Those Who Haven't Been Able To Get This App Working Yet.
Good Luck!
Note - Attachment :: The Quality Isn't That Great Because Of Size Restrictions Implemented By This Site. But At Least You Can See The Entire Screen Which I Think Is Much More Important.

Yes. Is 100% Free.
I Downloaded It From This Exact Link ::
TOSHIBA Website - Config Free for Windows XP (http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do;jsessionid=8F430C9509855A6D40CB4BBC4BE25 94D?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1474464xml&sliceId=&dialogID=7075587&stateId=0%200%207077243)
I Can't Answer That. I Haven't Even Read The Manuals. :D
Enjoy.

I have configfree, and it took over when the default Windows application decided to up and (literally) disappear (thats a whole thread in itself, and Ill post it elsewhere).
So long as Config free hooks up to the correct network, it works fine. However, on occasion itll find a plain unsecured linksys first, and will absolutely NOT let me switch it back to my home network. Instructions are being most unhelpfull in this matter. Hoping for some enlightenment.
