Look out here comes Microsoft (http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/internet/08/30/microsoft.reut/index.html) . Seems that MS wants in on VoIP. Not sure if this is a good thing or not. The people at Skype seemed to be concerned. I guess we will have to see how it pans out.

Wonder if that means the end of free MSN msgr. voice chats?

I thought Google was going to take care of that :D .

This is definitely a good thing for VoIP plus along with other big names like Yahoo this will surely help to get some price wars going with the VoIP hardware.

Well I haven't tried google's voice chat yet, but I can't imagine how much better it can get than what MSN provides now. It's already far better than any phone I've used. Assuming both parties have broadband and a moderately priced mic, it's just about like sitting in the same room with someone. Even with a $10 mic.

What I could see is maybe their service wouldn't be DOWN as often as MSN's is.

Now I hear that eBay is considering buying Skype and AOL (http://redir.internet.com/icoms/1_090805/www.internetnews.com/xSP/article.php/3546946) wants in on video VoIP.

I can tell you about skype, since i've used it now. For voice chat it's ALMOST as good as MSN, but it doesn't allow mic and speaker volume adjustment. For pc to phone calls, it can't even come close to competing with iconnecthere. There's a very noticeable delay when the call begins, and every call I make the other party doesn't hear me immediately. They keep saying "Hello? Hello?" and then they hear me. With iconnecthere it doesn't happen. Once skype stops this free introduction, i'll stop using it
