hey, I would like to build a point to point connection with my friend who lives downhill not too far from me. I would just like to know what kind of equipment I need, a parts list. If I could add more users to the system that would be awesome. Maybe some links.
Thank you so much,
Kevin

Yes you can make it easy. I've bougth ethernet adapters from linksys, they run very good and cheap, the model is WET11 and an Access Point Model WAP11. They ar very easy to configure:) .
If you are located in a distance like 10 miles or less you can use two 19DBI antenna point to point. Visit www.hyperlinktech.com and they also sale the pigtail for the Access Point and for the Ethernet Bridge. The Ethernet Bridge uses RP SMA connector and the WAP11 uses RP TNC connector. You can install the Access Point and the Bridge on the roof and use a Weather proof Box for having the best performance!. If not, use low loss cable like lmr 400 or RG/8 U.

You need:
1 Access Point with external connector
1 Wireless Bridge with external connector
2 antennas unidirectional 19DBI or 24DBI is Better
2 pigtails with N connector: 1 for your access point and 1 for your bridge
4 N type connector for RG-8/U or LMR 400(check first the specs of your pigtail and your antenna for choice the correct type, male or female).
1 cap for avoid sun burns :)
enjoy your network!

whats a bridge do? i looked at a product from linksys and I can run an antenna from it or so I heard.
so heres how im thinking it would work:
Point A(friend):
1. SDSL connection goes to a router/firewall
2. cat5 from router goes to an AP (either linksys or netgear)
3. cable goes from ap to an atenna
Point B(my house):
1. antenna picks up signal
2. cable goes from antenna to some type of broadband modem
3. cat5 goes from broadband modem to my nic
-Would that work?

yes that works!!
the bridge is the device that you say "broadband modem".
Brige is a converter from microwaves(802.11b) to ethernet signal. So the bridge is the device that join your friend house Access Point with your house.
Look an Access Point as a Hub and the Wireless Bridge as a Ethernet Cable.
Just you have to choice a bridge, it can be netgear, linksys, etc.
for example linksys model is WET11 and the pigtail model from hyperlinktech is CA-WXCABLE4.
good look

I wouldnt need a router & an access point if I used that wireless switch deal from linksys would I ? this is what Im thinking of using,
model BEFW11S4 Wireless Access Point Router with 4-Port Switch - Version 2
http://www.linksys.com/Products/product.asp?grid=23&prid=415
just connect that to lmr400 and to antenna with the internet conection coming in as dsl.
think that woudl work?
Thanks so much

Check this out.
Using the BEFW11S4 over the WAP11 depends on a few things.
You need a SHORT antenna wire. If you have to mount an antenna on your roof, your best bet is a WAP11 in the attic (or something like that).
If you have a garage and the BEFW11S4 is in a window, then just use the BEFW11S4.
The image above. Also "Go back to index" for a wet11/wap11 solution.
