I am a student at a university that has on campus wireless internet. While this would be great if I had a laptop to take on campus, I don't. However, I do live less than 200 yds from the school.... I need help getting that signal from the school to my house.... I have line of sight and the following equipment.

Equipment to work with:
2 - BEFW11S4 Linksys Wireless-B Routers (RP-TNC Antenna)
1 - TrendNet TEW-230APB (has WDS Bridge capabilities) (RP-SMA Antenna)
1 - Foxconn Wireless-G PCI Adapter (RP-SMA Antenna)
1 - Linksys Wireless-B WPC11 PC Card Adapter
1 - Lucent/Orinoco WaveLan Ethernet to Wireless LAN Converter w/ Lucent PC Card
1 - External 9 dBi Linear Directional Antenna RP-TNC (connects to router)
1 - External 14 dBi Yagi Directional Antenna N-Female with RP-SMA pigtail (connects to PCI adapter or TrendWare AP)

What I've Tried:
--Tried to set up WDS on TrendNet AP to connect to the AP's at the school. I wanted to set it up as a repeater, put an antenna on it, and shoot it to my house. Didn't work... I think WDS has to be enabled on both ends of whatever hop you're trying to make.
--Tried setting up the TrendNet AP as a Client and connecting to the school's AP. I thought if I could get the TrendNet AP to connect as a client, then I could wire it into a Linksys Router w/ an antenna and shoot it at my house. No luck... not sure why.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for the reply...

I already have an antenna that will work very well, the problem is that even if I hook an antenna up to my wireless card at home, the signal from the school doesn't have enough juice to make it to my house. So I need a way to capture that signal from the school and give it a boost with an antenna to my house. I have an antenna that will work for this purpose also, so all I need is a way to grab that signal out of the air and send it on with my antenna. Basically, I need a repeater, but the only repeater capabilities I have are on the TrendNet AP w/ WDS (Wireless Distribution System). Unfortunately, for WDS to work, I think the access points at the school would have to be setup for it also... which is something to which I do not have access. Although, if anyone could help me with hacking into an access point to change some settings, that might be an option.

that is the point.. the antanna deals with FOV and then u direct it to a certin area.. that is why i suggested it because u have FOV and btw did u ever think about a Hidden SSID of being the reason why u cant get on? ^_^
Thanks,

Hacking their AP is not recommended, if you do you may be arrested. WDS will not work unless the devices are BOTH set up to use WDS. That being said there are ways to use the signal as intended. you could turn one of the APs to client mode and use it as a bridge (your ap must have this capability). If you can you should be able to then plug that bridge into another AP in AP mode to retransmit into your house. If you dont have a laptop then you should just plug the bridge into the PC's lan port. Maybe call the IT dept at the school and they can help get you set up.

if you have confirmed that your setup will work if the signal strenght is strong enough (by testing it at another, closer location), you should put a 1 watt amp on between your access point and antenna, that would really help improve signal quality. I'm using one of those to send a signal about that disntance and it works great, so it should help on your receiving end as well.

Good luck,

check out my new thread: How to make a universal repeater. Should work out great in your situation, assuming you can place some of your equipment close enough to grab the inital signal.
