Greetings all! I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the differance between these 2 emerging technologies, WiMax and 802.11n. Like what are the theoretical throughput speeds, range, etc. Which technology will "win" out?

Just curious and trying to hedge my bets for future projects.

Thanks!!!

Those are great links and I for one don’t know that much about it either and would love to hear from someone with some insight to where it’s going or if its even going to catch on. Anyone else have any more good links or information on this protocol? Pro’s & Con’s maybe…

Thanks.

Basically 802.11n is a Wireless LAN technology, while 802.16x (or WiMax) is a Wireless WAN technology.
802.11n is based on 802.11g but differs from it with the usage of MIMO (Multiple Input and Multiple Output) antennas in order to boost up the bandwidth.

802.16x family is an alternative technology to xDSL and Cable Networks. 802.16x will be served from a local Base Station and the Subscribers will be the main internet connection of nearby buildings.

802.16x is planned to replace xDSL and Cable (and some mobile users as well) while 802.11x will/does replace Ethernet. They are planned to work together.
