Hi Everybody

What does it mean when I can ping a machine on a wireless network but I can't see the harddrive of that machine?

The other night I was getting reliable pings of less than 10ms, 95% signal strength, but no matter what I did I couldn't see the harddrives of the remote computer. Sometimes I can see, sometimes I can't, and I have no idea as to why.

There is no problem with mapping the harddrive, some times the network works perfectly and I stream mp3s across the network all day, other times when I try to browse the remote harddrive windows says the network path cannot be found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Joey

what version of windows? are you all on the same workgroup or domain? also in the tcp/ip advanced settings do you have "enable netbios over tcp/ip" enabled?

check those and post back.

Hi there,

Check the default share or the drive share option under properties. Rt. Click on c drive & check if it is shared else this message that you are getting is perfect.

check if you have any firewalls running on the machine, also i had a simular problem if this is a bridge with a winxp/2003 machine between a wired/wireless network, very strange but it turned out that the bridge needed to have an ip on the network and a def. gateway before it would push any traffic through
